I have been working on what I call Rimpas, which is the name of a Japanese water color technique which I have appropriated to describe the gold-backed landscapes that have been obsessing me lately.
‘Rimpa’ is a misnomer, since I do not recreate the particular watercolor effects that the work rimpa describes, but it does denote the basic gold leafed, abstract landscapes or floral still-life that I have done. These pieces are usually 8″ x 10″ and fit nicely into shadow box frames. Sometime soon I hope to teach a class on these.
